Hello, Welcome to Marcia’s Cottage. I’m so happy to see you today my friend. ♡ Shall we have a
little tea.
I’m not sure if I have shared this with you.. But I’ve been taking a few classes at CSUSB. It’s been so nice to take classes just for FuN…♡
For years my Schooling involved taking classes I “needed” to take for my career. It’s a very different experience to take a class you choose. With that said, I’m also finding more and more that “LIFE” is just one big classroom. Very exciting! Do you find this to be true also?
This is one of my classrooms right now. I gathered a few containers around our garden to inspire me with color. One of the classes I’m taking is a watercolor painting class. And so this morning, while the light is perfect, I thought I’d practice some of the things I’m learning. My goal for taking this class is for sheer EnJoYmEnT. So I just keep practicing. Psssst…Can I share a little secret? I think I’m really improving too!
When I first decided to take a watercolor class I thought it would be SO easy. However it has turned out to be much more difficult than I imagined. Because I had to start with the very basic.
I’m learning about blending the colors from the color wheel. For most of us, our first experience to using color was with crayons and a coloring book. We were told to stay within the lines and color nicely. And although staying within the lines had its place, it’s deadly to CrEaTiViTy. What I’ve learned is the marks we make in our paint can add emotion, energy, spontaneity, and movement to our work.
Blending colors together to see the variety of their intensity.
On this assignment, we were asked to interpret “words” with our brush strokes. Some of the words were: straight, curvy, zizzag, dotted, broken, crisscrossed, fast, slow, spiral, thick, thin
squiggly, strong, weak, horizontal, vertical, and diagonal.
Learning and practicing the different strokes.
The instructor is very nice. She makes us all feel like we’re little ArTiStS.♡ She is so encouraging too. I appreciate encouragement when I’m learning anything new….♡
After several weeks of class, we were given an assignment to paint an object using the different strokes, and blend two colors from the color wheel.
Our most recent assignment was to use the knowledge of what we learned, and paint from a photo. Of course I chose our little cottage.
I also chose a picture from a recent trip to Face Rock in Bandon, Oregon…. where my husband and I have a small beach Cottage. I’m still working on this painting. It’s an interesting process to work with black and white.
Well I guess I better get back to my painting, while the lighting is smiling perfectly. ..♡
And Darjeeling is still being politely CuRiOuS. …♡
Oh. .. I’m wondering if you’ve ever taken a class just for fun. .. Perhaps, you’ve even taken a painting class. I hope so…because it’s pure JoY….♡
Thank you for stopping by. I hope you have enjoyed your visit. Have a lovely day my friend.♡
Xoxo. ..
