As the holiday season deepens, I’ve been relishing each stage of decorating, taking time to savor the details as I transform our home into a Nutcracker-inspired winter haven. This year, I’m leaning fully into a Nutcracker theme…a beloved tradition for us that has grown over the years into a special part of our holiday celebrations.
In the living room, I’m layering my white flocked tree with a collection of Nutcracker ornaments…toy soldiers with hand-painted details. Each ornament is like a little story in itself, and placing them on the tree feels like bringing cherished memories and holiday magic to life. And I’ll admit…one of my little holiday binges this year was a midsize nutcracker toy soldier, who’s sure to bring a bit of whimsy standing proudly beside the tree, as if keeping watch over our festivities.
The dining alcove has taken on a more rustic, woodsy look, blending wooden soldier ornaments and my whimsical candy cane pieces from last year. The earthly tones and the familiar faces of the Nutcracker soldiers tie in perfectly with our cozy kitchen and dining space. I even have a small tree nestled in the kitchen corner with just a few ornaments and lights to spread the warmth throughout the home.
Adding a touch of elegance, I couldn’t resist some European cut glass ornaments for the tree…a little splurge that I see as a beautiful investment. Each piece reflects the lights in a way that feels magical, adding an extra sparkle. And speaking of sparkle, I’m experimenting with adding extra bulbs and mini lights to our main tree to make it glow warmly throughout the season.
Outdoors, I’ve hung a new nutcracker-themed welcome flag that will greet us each time we arrive home. While I’m saving a few final touches for later, I’m already thrilled with how it’s coming together, and I can’t wait to share more when the full display is ready.
For now, each day brings a bit more magic as our Nutcracker theme evolves, and I look forward to sharing more glimpses of this holiday journey.
