Falling Into The End Of Summer

“August is like the Sunday of summer”

August 25, 2019

Hello, sweet friend…

My dear friend Geri…as we enjoy a visit to the Blackberry Festival in Coos Bay, Oregon

🌻

The following Post has been re-edited from August 2017

This past month as I took a walk outside, and the dry leaves rustled pleasantly beneath my feet…

I paused and reflected how quickly the time has gone. Has it really been t.h.r.e.e. summers  living here on the Oregon coast? (a look of surprise) yes, dear readers it has🏡First summer

With that said and having lived through many warm summers in California summer coastal weather at times still feels quite unfamiliar. foreign

There are times that I have actually forgotten that it was even summer.

However one of the sure signs that summer has occurred and is coming into an ending…  is the weeping willow tree in our backyard. the name is apropos

Her leaves begin falling mid~late August and into September.

a bittersweet reminder that another season of life has passed.

Now as I take my walks in the coming month I’ll imagine each brown and gold leaf as a moment past…

leaving the perfect moment to sow new seeds.

loving seeds…

more seeds of memories…

about to begin.🍂

🍁Happy September🍁

As the end of Summer approaches farmers markets and roadside stands are overflowing with natures bounty. Here’s a wonderful recipe for you to try perhaps for this Labor Day weekend…(another sure sign that summer is coming to an end)

SUMMER PASTA RECIPE

I enjoyed making this recipe because it was quick and easy. I especially loved the lemon herb vinaigrette.

Ingredients:

12 ounces dry pasta

1 cucumber, diced

1  pint cherry tomatoes, halved

1/2 cup sliced kalamata olives

4 ounces crumbled feta cheese

half of a medium red onion, peeled and thinly sliced

Directions:

Cook pasta al dente in a large stockpot of salted water according to package instructions. Drain pasta, then rinse under cold water for about 20-30 seconds until no longer hot. Transfer the  pasta into a large mixing bowl.

Add cucumber, tomatoes, kalamata olives, feta cheese, and red onion to the mixing bowl, then drizzle all of the vinaigrette evenly on top. Toss until all ingredients are evenly coated with the dressing. Bon appetit

Lemon-Herb Vinaigrette

Ingredients:

1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil

3 tablespoons red wine vinegar

1 tablespoon freshly~squeezed lemon juice

2 teaspoons dried oregano, minced

1 teaspoon honey

2 small garlic cloves, minced

1/4 teaspoon salt

pinch of crushed red pepper flakes

And here’s a little beauty from my beautiful coast.🐠

    Hello sweet friend!
I am finally able to type again. It appears that I have come down with Tendinitis in both wrists. How? Not sure…. thank God for anti-inflammatory’s!!!
I have so enjoyed your last few posts and wanted to tell you but now I can get down to business. How is our star doing? I loved the posting of the last night… so fun! I hope there is another production next year that YOU can star in… As you know, here in Laguna we have a playhouse but it is not open to the residents to star in… The closest we come is the Pageant of the Masters which I am sure you have seen many times… Living here in Laguna Beach all of our guests beg to see it… I have never participated in it but you are right… it is wonderful when it becomes a gathering of locals who care deeply about the arts…
Now, to your latest… I loved it!! I am in Heaven… I love the crunch of the leaves beneath my feet and the smell of the air with the coming of Fall… My absolutely favorite time of the year… The tourists have left town and now I can go back to my old haunts… and restaurants… Yesterday, I went to the Roger’s Garden Halloween opening which I am sure you have been to. The opening always signals the beginning of Fall to me… This year it was so much fun… I love Halloween and decorating for it… I used to be so sad when growing up that my birthday was in November… I used to find it drab and boring but now… I am so happy… love the fall colors, the clothes, the pumpkin spice that can be found everywhere and just the feel of the air… If you ever make it down back this way I would love you to visit for a real chat and a cuppa… Thank you for all the great recipes… I love cooking, gardening and decorating… what great friends we are via your lovely blog and your facebook postings… I am so happy to see you almost on a daily basis… Thank you my friend for adding this special time to my life… I so enjoy keeping up with you!
    XOXO
    Jane

Hello my very sweet friend Jane,
I am so very sorry to hear about your Tendinitis. (especially sorry about both wrists) Yes we must be grateful for anything that helps with pain. Hope you are doing better. Well…Cami is doing well. It’s her mom that needs a vacation. (just kidding) Even though it was lots of work I had a blast. Hmmm… ME in a play? Let’s see I played Abe Lincoln’s wife Sarah. (4th grade) and there was a stint when I took a creative dramatics class in college. (grin) We will have to wait and see. Yes! Yes! Yes! I so enjoyed the Laguna Arts Festival (miss it) and the Pagent of the Masters. Oh and how lucky you are to attend Rogers Garden for their Halloween opening! (I think I might be jealous) I would often eat at the Sherman Library for lunch afterwards. There are fabulous places where you live and Fall is a great time there. Lucky you! Actually lucky me for having met you. You are so sweet & I would love to enjoy a cupola and “real” chat when I visit. Thank you for making my day Jane. Take care my friend. Xo
