Longing for a quieter life this former SoCal gal left it all behind for a rediscovered one along the Oregon coast.

A Wonderful Visit
Hello, Welcome to Marcia’s Cottage by the Sea. ♡ I’m so happy to see you today my friend. ♡ Shall we have a little tea. ♡ Thought I’d drop in on this beautiful Sunday evening. Our friend Jeff left a few hours ago. We had a fabulous weekend. He arrived on Friday evening, so we decided to go out for dinner. I had prepared a huge pot of lentil vegetable soup. However, he preferred treating us. That’s the kind of guy he is. Anyway, we stayed up past everyone’s bedtime chatting away. Saturday morning I had prepared cranberry scones, then … Read the full blog post

The Richness of Life
How was you week? I hope it was good. Any fun plans for the weekend? There’s nothing like working on a project, to lose track of time. With that being said, if anyone knows what happened to the month of February please let me know. This past week I’ve been busily working on several projects, creating more of what I see as a vision for our cottage. Several trips to the hardware & fabric store for items to continue painting living room, and kitchen. My husband and I agreed that tackling one project a month was reasonable, and civilized. (I got away with … Read the full blog post

Downton 6E7
It’s hard to believe there are only 2 episodes left of DA. I guess I should start polishing my silver. Oh, wait…I don’t own any silver. And, just between “us” I am preparing myself for the finale that will air on March 6th. Julian’s next project will be focusing on the millionaire titan of New York in The Gilded Age. I most certainly will get hooked on that too. Tonight’s DA bookclub was held at Lori’s cottage. Yes, another adorable cottage that I was able to experience. pinchmepinchmepinchme. Lori’s home is outside of town, and nestled in the woods. Surrounded … Read the full blog post

The Heart of Friendship
Hello, Welcome to Marcia’s Cottage by the Sea. ♡ I’m so happy to see you today my friend. ♡ Shall we have a little tea. ♡ “Friendship is one of the sweetest joys of life.” ~ Charles Spurgeon Well, I have to say if I have a weakness when it comes to food, without a doubt , the answer is bread. I love the aroma of fresh-baked bread. There’s a wonderful bakery here where I live. I often stop by and purchase some sort of bread treat. It’s not uncommon for me to eat bread everyday. It may be a small … Read the full blog post

Downton 6E5
It’s Saturday evening, and I have just returned from another DA bookclub group. No reading. Just eating, & watching. And, this evening we hopped on over to Deborah’s lovely cottage in the woods. So fun, and I’m feeling very lucky to have been invited to be part of this lovely gathering of friends here on the coast. This was my first time at Debra’s home, so of course I snapped up a few photos. The food was especially yummy this evening. One of the ladies prepared a yummy frittata. She mentioned that she had recently visited Spain, and took … Read the full blog post

Languages of Love
You can give without loving, but you cannot love without giving.~ Amy Carmichael Hello February, the love month. The store aisles are filled with red hearts, hearts on teddy bears, hearts on boxes of cards. Just recently I saw exercise equipment with hearts on it. There are many ways to speak Love. I’ve shared in previous posts that our cottage living room is getting a cottage make-over. I envision it as French seaside. Light blues, pops of red, and of course it has to have white painted floors. And, without going into too many details, I mostly want to emphasize that … Read the full blog post

Something to crow about
THE CROW AND THE PITCHER A thirsty crow found a pitcher with some water in it, but so little was there that, try as she might, she could not reach it with her beak, and it seemed as though she would die of thirst within sight of the remedy. At last she hit upon a clever plan. She began dropping pebbles into the pitcher, and with each pebble the water rose a little higher until at last it reached the brim, and the knowing bird was enable to quench her thirst.~ Aesop I’m hoping that your first month of 2016 … Read the full blog post
Downton 6E4
Tonight was another fun evening spent with my new friends, and fellow Downton fans here on the coast. I’m finding much comfort while settling into these winter nights. My friend Allegra graciously hosted again. I don’t think any of the ladies are excited to have me host. Perhaps, it’s because our BIG tv is in the bedroom…or that currently our cottage is under the weather. (grin) Aka…the front room is getting a little make-over. Anyway, Allegra’s home is charming. Here’s a link if you haven’t seen this tour. https://marciascottagebythesea.com/christmas-on-the-coast/ It’s so nice to have beautiful cottages to enjoy the ending of this glorious … Read the full blog post

What Do You Do When You Don’t Know What To Do?
“Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful. ” ~William Morris No doubt I could have called this post “Things I wish I could’ve learned years ago.” Do you ever feel that way about life? Oh, oh, I think I’m about to preach to MAH-SELF. Because this post is more than likely only speaking to me today. This past week marked 6 months in our cottage on the Oregon coast. Overall things are moving along nicely. However, without going into specifics I know there is a shift going on … Read the full blog post

Downton Abbey Tuesday
Hi! This is a re-post from January 2016. The same group of wonderful ladies have just recently begun another ‘Book Club’ on the PBS Masterpiece Theatre Series Victoria. One of the ladies offers her home for the evening, & the others are asked to bring a snackie, wine or both. *************************************** I’m loving this Downton Abbey group. Have I mentioned how nice all the ladies are. Perhaps that was a requirement. Ha! Anyway, I decided to take advantage of it by posting a What I make and take to this fun gathering. I’m not going to spoil anything for … Read the full blog post
