Hello, Welcome to Marcia’s Cottage by the Sea. ♡ I’m so happy to see you today my friend. ♡ Shall we have a little tea. ♡
Hey, Happy Autumn! I thought it would be fun to share a glimpse of our sweet, unassuming cottage. Kind of show you how it is coming along. I feel like I have been re-discovering myself again in the process.
Although small in size, it’s been a bigger challenge living out my committment to a more simple, and authentic life style. As you view the photos keep in mind that other than the first photo all are of our current cottage, which we moved into July 13th, of this year.
More than five years ago, while living in California
I was asked to have our then 1920’s cottage home participate in a Vintage Home Tour.
After some considering my husband and I agreed.
Shortly after the tour, one of the attendees
submitted our home to the editor of the magazine Romantic Living.
I must admit I was a little surprised, and of course flattered.
Then after a series of interesting, taking several days photo shoots by the renowned Mark Lohmann, submitted to also renowned stylist Sandy Henderson, a.n.d. then to the editor our home wasn’t chosen.
The editor at the time felt they were in need of something less cottage”y”, for the issue they had in mind.
I was told they’d hold onto the photos, and that perhaps they might use them for another magazine in the future.
I must admit that again I was a little taken back, and surprised.
Of course, I tried not to take it personally.
After all I should have been honored just to be considered. Right?
Well, actually, I learned quite a bit from that experience.
Now, when I look back at the situation, it seems as if my sweet ego was involved with someone liking or not liking our home.
Silly, silly. A home is so personal, and no matter whether “others” love it or not…
What’s important is that it feels like “home” for you, filled with love,
and reflects your authentic life for all who dwell there.
And of course, what I’m learning in this process of creating a new home is that authenticity is more about letting go, than holding on to.
With that said, I’m pretty sure this sweet cottage is on it’s way.
Wishing you a season of splendor…
This is an up~ to ~date tour of our cottage, so far….♡

Thanks for starting Autumn off well!
So enjoyed your tour and seeing how things are coming together for you and your husband. Putting your own stamp on the area within which you live can be such a fulfilling chore. Somehow, chore doesn’t seem to cover what it is you are experiencing, but my mins has gone blank. It is obvious that you are totally enjoying your life and the discoveries you are making each day. Wish you all the best and hope that things continue to go so well for you.
Hi Nancy! Thank you. “Chore” is a great word. And, our cottage hasn’t become that at all yet. I’m sure the fact that it’s small and very manageable helps. We haven’t gone through winter yet either…and I’m sure it’s going to be quite different that So. Cal. (grin)
Thank you for stopping by, and leaving a content. Have a great weekend!
Marcia, I am enjoying your beautiful serene piece of Mother Earth so much through your pictures! Thank you so much for sharing! I especially love your walks by the sea! Someday I would love to rent a cabin by the sea for a few weeks, actually several months, just to renew my soul and health! Keep sharing Marcia, knowing you are helping many others to heal! Bless you!
Hi Janeen! So nice to see you. Thank you for your kind, sweet words. Yes, I’m enjoying the beauty, and serenity living on the coast. It is a wonderful way to experience day to day living. I hope you can get away in your cabin renewal. Xo Marcia
