Tamales

*So here’s a cute story for a Sunday. I grew up with a tradition of having Tamales on New Years Day. When I lived in Southern California it was very easy to go to a Mexican deli and just order them for the holidays. Often, when I was still a teacher, parents would bring some  in for me. One year I actually had a few parents come over to my home and teach me how to prepare them. I was somewhat in a quandary when I moved to The Oregon coast. I wasn’t sure where I’d find tamales. So, recently while eating dinner at a local Mexican … Read the full blog post

2015

I usually don’t enjoy endings. And, as 2015 comes to an end… I have visions of the year I’m leaving. I’ve learned a great deal this year. I feel it’s been challenging, productive and also enjoyable day to day. What a wonderful thought to live our lives with as few regrets as possible. I have to be honest that I don’t make New Year’s resolutions either. However, at the beginning of each year I do write down a few things I’d like to work on to improve myself for the coming year. I begin to resolve to use my energy in positive, constructive, … Read the full blog post

Christmas Tea Time

Earlier this week I hosted an afternoon Christmas Tea. It turned out very nice. I invited a couple of friends over, and created a sweet, simple tablescape for lunch. A veggie pot pie, salad, and Christmas cookies for dessert were served.     The choice of tea was a Christmas blend, and a Rose tea. Perfect!  I highly recommend an afternoon such as this. It’s really very easy to organize, plan, and put forth in action. I promise the work will be well worth the effort. Your friends will enjoy chatting away the afternoon, and celebrating  the joyful spirit of the season.

Christmas on the Coast

I love cottage homes. Especially, cottages that are Warm, Welcoming, and Inspiring. So, I thought it would be fun to share three of them during the week before Christmas. And, since it’s Christmas time, and I’m Marcia… we can begin with mine! (giggle) Of course the truth is the last two cottages are so wonderfully special, there’s no way I want to follow either one. (grin) So, get comfortable, and join me for a peek into three special, and cozy cottages on the Oregon coast. My cottage was built in 1946, and is a beach cottage. It is located 1/8 … Read the full blog post

For many years I hosted a Christmas Tea on the first Saturday in December. One year I had 35 ladies attend! “Give Us This Day…”

Hello, Welcome to Marcia’s Cottage by the Sea. ♡ I’m so happy to see you today my friend. ♡ Shall we have a little tea. ♡ I can’t think of anything more comforting than the smell of baked bread. When I was single, I’d often bake bread in a bread maker in the morning. This way when I arrived back to my small apartment after a day of teaching I’d smell homemade bread. My apartment would feel all warm, cozy, and welcoming. I would feel loved And, of course we all need to feel loved. Oh, and of course if you … Read the full blog post

A Home~Made Home

Hi there! I hope you had a great weekend. Thought I’d pop in early this morning for a chat. Being that now I’m retired, all my days sort of kind of “feel” like Saturday. Joe realized that he isn’t quite ready for the retirement thing yet. So, he’s working here and there. Anyway, as you must know I LOVE the home, and creating  a HOME. This recent move to the Oregon Coast has had it’s challenges for sure. One that I want to share is the importance of having a special meal time. So, I’ve started preparing a Sunday dinner. … Read the full blog post
