No doubt it has something to do with beginning a new life here on the Oregon coast.
Or, perhaps, it’s that I recently celebrated one year living in a sweet cottage by the sea. Whatever the reason…lately I’ve have been thinking about beginnings. Beginnings can happen at anytime throughout life. Interestingly they can happen later in life. And, most amazingly they often happen when we least expect them.
When I was younger I thought the best beginnings happened during our youth.
Afterall, the announcement of a new birth is so exciting. Always sweet, with so much promise ahead.
However, more and more I’m thinking beginnings which occur at a later stage or chapter in life are ones to be celebrated, perhaps even embraced more.
These are the ones that often take a special courage. Since, by this time we have more than likely experienced at least a few endings.
Recently I attended a wedding. And, as you might have guessed… I love weddings. My friend Chuck got married.
Chuck is 84. Chuck’s first wife passed away 3 years ago. They had been married for 38 years. Before that Chuck had been previously married. That marriage wasn’t as successful.
A few weeks earlier Chuck had met a wonderful lady. Her name is Debralee. Chuck fell head over heels in love with Debralee.
A week later he called and told me he was getting married. Chuck said everyone was a little concerned about his rash decision to marry so quickly.
Chuck’s reply to me was….”Marcie” (that’s what Chuck calls me) “why should I wait?”
Like I said beginnings can happen anytime throughout life. And, perhaps when we are lucky enough for them to happen unexpectedly at a later stage…
Well Chuck….
why….wait…
Here’s to our later new beginnings….
