The Sea Lions At Simpson Reef

Hey sweet friend! I’m so grateful to see you today. I hope you had a wonderful week. And if by any chance this is your first time visiting here then Welcome! It makes me happy to see you.

These cute little creatures sure make me happy too. That is when I’m able to see them.

Long ago when I was still doing the teaching & living thing in California,

my second graders would often take field trips to the fabulous San Diego Zoo.

Here children were able to experience all the magical benefits of nature & animals.

And one of my all time favorite exhibits would always be the sea lions.

Little did I know back then that one day I’d be living so close to these wonderful mammals that I could run and visit them almost anytime.  This past week the teacher in me decided I needed a field trip and decided to go visit my new friends.

The weather had been a little gray, misty, even raining at times

and the former SoCal gal in me didn’t even expect to see them hanging out at the beach.

I mean seriously who hangs out at the beach on a cloudy, rainy, gray day? I do! They do!

Well. … not only were they hanging out, they actually looked like they were having a wonderful time.

Did you know that these guys & gals actually love to hang out together.  Some might say they are lazy.  I don’t really think so, they just love hanging out because they are by their very nature social creatures, who need the social interaction with others to remain mentally healthy.

I read somewhere that sea lions live longer in captivity than in the wild as long as they are with others like our Social Media. They also have sounds barks for telling when they are happy, content, and in distress. I guess you might say they have great communication skills. Geeez….I’m thinking what luck to have found such great new friends to hang out with. 100 ThInGs ThAt Make Me HaPpY…♡

See ya!
