As September tiptoes in, bringing that crisp whisper of autumn, I’ve been reflecting on what fall decorating looks like for me in this new chapter. In the past, I might have pulled out boxes of pumpkins, wreaths, and seasonal trinkets. But this year feels different. After moving into our townhome, I’ve discovered something unexpected: simplicity is my greatest luxury.
I jokingly call it my “faux fall” approach… not faux as in fake pumpkins or artificial leaves, but faux as in fuss-free. I no longer feel the pull to transform every corner of my home to match the season. Instead, I’ve realized I already have the most stunning piece of art: my windows.

They frame the daily masterpiece outside, summer greens, slowly softening into golden light, the air, turning crisper, and the world outside quietly changing clothes for autumn. No painting, no garland, no decoration can outdo the way the season reveals itself through the panes.

Of course, that doesn’t mean, I resist cozy touches entirely. The folded throw blanket here, a candle flickering in the evening, perhaps a single branch tucked into my hydrangea vessel. But these are just whispers, not shouts. They support the beauty, rather than compete with it.

And here’s the truth: curating a home, in this chapter of life is less about the effort and more about the ease. Just as some women are choosing not to spend hours “putting on a face ” to present themselves. I find myself choosing not to spend hours dressing my home for every season. There’s a freedom in letting go of the expectation to produce… whether it’s layers of makeup or layers of decor. For me, simplicity is the real luxury, and peace the most beautiful accessory of all.
How do you like to welcome fall into your home? Do you go all out, or do you prefer a few simple touches?

Thank you for your creative approach to capturing the beauty right outside your townhome right through the window panes. Your ‘faux’ suggestion of ‘no fuss’ lends itself to simplicity.
Thank you so much! Nature really is the best Decorator… ur windows to all the work
