This Labor Day feels more than just a holiday marking the end of summer. For me, it’s a pause to look back on what these last six months have held since moving into our new townhome.
When Joe and I moved in at the end of March, we arrived with only the essentials… a bed, a piano, a few favorite things… and a whole lot of trust that we could create a new chapter together here. These six months have been both a settling in and a stretching out. We’ve learned how to live lighter, how to embrace more freedom, and how to curate a home slowly piece by piece.
Ironically, some of the milestones of this journey have been tied to the holidays. On 4th of July, the sofa arrived… a puzzle piece that finally made our living room feel complete. And now on Labor Day, I find myself reflecting on the true labor of love it takes to make a house a home.

But this hasn’t been the kind of “labor “that wears you down. Instead, it’s been the joyful work of creating a space that reflects who we are now. Letting go of what no longer fits, choosing only what adds comfort and beauty, and giving ourselves permission to live with simplicity.
Six months and, our townhome feels less like a place we moved into and more like a place that is growing with us. A home doesn’t happen overnight… It happens in layers. And just like the changing of the seasons, it unfolds in its own rhythm.

So today, as summer tilts toward fall, I’m grateful for the labor of love behind these first six months and for the freedom to continue shaping this home with intention, one piece at a time.
What has been your favorite’ labor of love’ project in your own home?

I just love the idea of a ‘labor of love’ of making your townhouse into a home. What a wonderful holiday to be aware of your labors.
Congratulations and hopes for you to continue your ‘labors’ as your home evolves!
