Since moving to a larger town, I’ve been slowly discovering the little joys of city life…charming shops, cozy restaurants, and favorite stops that are beginning to feel familiar. One of those recent discoveries has been Pottery Barn… a place I used to only browse online, and now can stroll into, latte in hand.

We’ve been settling into our new townhome, and while I’ve had fun choosing a few accessory pieces for the space, I recently found myself pausing when it came to the layout. Our space, though cozy, holds quite a bit: a living area, dining nook, a spot for my baby grand piano, and an open view into the kitchen. It’s bright and welcoming, thanks to large windows that look out onto trees, sky, and a lovely pond… but still, I wanted to make it flow.
That’s when I learned that Pottery Barn offers, complementary-home design consultations. I made an appointment, curious to see what a fresh set of eyes might offer. When the day arrived, an enthusiastic designer, knocked on our door… filled with energy, ideas, and that notable Pottery Barn polish.
The consultant walked through the space with intention and listened thoughtfully as I shared what I hope to create: something that honored the peaceful beauty outside our windows, while also making room for gatherings, music, and daily living. We talked about light, movement, and comfort. She suggested small tweaks I hadn’t considered… like adjusting the placement of the piano just slightly to open up the room… and brought ideas for accent tables, rugs, layering, and natural textures to echo the outdoors.
The visit wasn’t just about choosing curtains or rearranging a few chairs… it was about seeing our townhome through fresh eyes. Her ideas were helpful, of course, but more than anything, I was reminded that home isn’t measured by square footage or countertops. It’s measured by warmth, intention, and the memories we create within its walls.
As I looked around afterward, I realized how much love and care has gone into making this place ours. The light in the morning, the soft chairs we chose together, even the cozy kitchen with its older oak cabinets…all of it tells our story. It’s not grand, but it’s grounded. And in this season of life, that feels just right.

What a lovely insight about seeing things with fresh eyes. I believe this serves all areas of my life. Thank you
