Last week, I wrote about changing plans and how disappointing interruptions can sometimes become unexpected gifts.
At the time, I was reflecting on the cancellation of an event I had been looking forward to. Naturally, I felt disappointed at first. But as the week unfolded, I began to see that what initially felt like a disruption may have actually been a quiet gift.
Then life shifted again.
Within days, I found myself taking a quick and unexpected trip to California to attend a dear friend’s memorial service.
The trip carried a mixture of emotions—grief, tenderness, reflection, and gratitude. There were moments of deep emotion and moments of quiet peace. Returning to familiar places brought memories to the surface, reminding me how deeply our lives are shaped by the people we love and the seasons we have lived.
And yet, woven into all of it, there was joy.
Before returning home, I spent a day at Disneyland—a place filled with nostalgia, happiness, and familiar comfort. As I walked through the park, I found myself reflecting on how beautifully complex life can be.
We often think we must choose between joy and sorrow.
But life rarely asks us to choose.
Instead, life invites us to hold both.
To honor grief.
To welcome joy.
To carry memories with tenderness while still embracing the beauty of the present moment.
I am learning that healing does not always mean leaving sorrow behind.
Sometimes healing looks like carrying sorrow gently while still making room for joy.
Perhaps that is one of life’s quiet miracles.
Joy and sorrow can walk together.
And somehow, grace meets us in both.

I am very sorry for your loss! Your reflections of how joy and sorrow walk together was very soul and inspiring to me !
