A Random Friday Story
Every now and then, life delivers a tiny bit of magic wrapped in turquoise and red… and this week, it arrived on my doorstep straight from London.
Earlier in the week, I was happily decorating for Christmas when — in true “holiday shuffle” fashion — I accidentally dropped one of my cherished ornaments. It broke, and though I saved a little piece, I felt that familiar pang of sadness these sentimental things can bring.
My husband, ever observant and quietly tender in his own way, must have picked up on my disappointment.
Because the very next day… a surprise Fortnum & Mason box arrived.
Inside was the most beautiful 2025 ornament, hand-painted and glistening with little birds, mistletoe, and a ribbon of gold. It reminded me instantly of our holiday in London — the festive windows, the teas, the crisp air, the magic everywhere.
But the story didn’t end there.
The following day, I opened my door to find another Fortnum & Mason package. Yes… because earlier that same week, in one of those “oh no” moments, I had dropped another treasured ornament.
And my sweet husband, wanting to lift my spirits a second time, had secretly ordered both — one for each mishap.
As I held the ornament in my hand today, I realized something:
Sometimes joy doesn’t arrive in one grand gesture. Sometimes it comes twice… softly, thoughtfully, in turquoise boxes tied with red ribbon, carrying a little chocolate truffle and a whole lot of love.
A small tenderness for a Friday… and a reminder that beauty often returns to us in unexpected, joy-filled ways.
Gratitude
Today I’m grateful for unexpected kindness, gentle surprises, and the sweet ways love finds us.
