A Little Bathroom, Finding Its Personality

There are some rooms in a home that seem to come together almost immediately.

And then there are the little spaces that take their time.

Our small guest bathroom has definitely been one of those.

It’s tucked just inside the house near the garage entrance, and since moving here, I’ve never felt the need to rush into deciding exactly what it should be. I’ve moved a few things around, tried this and that, and mostly allowed the room to wait until I discovered what felt right.

For a while, I’ve thought about adding a pretty peel-and-stick wallpaper. I still might someday. There are so many lovely patterns that could completely change this tiny room.

But lately, I’ve been appreciating something simpler.

When it comes to small bathroom decorating ideas, I’m discovering that sometimes the simplest changes really are enough.

I found the most charming blue-and-white striped sink skirt, and somehow that one little addition gave the room exactly what it had been missing.

It feels fresh and coastal without trying too hard. The blue and white connects naturally with the colors I love throughout our home, and because the bathroom is so small, the softness of the fabric adds just enough interest without overwhelming the space.

Sometimes one small change really is enough.

I already had several framed seashell prints, and once I brought those into the room, everything began to make a little more sense. Pieces I already owned suddenly had a place, and the bathroom started to feel less like a room I hadn’t quite figured out and more like a sweet little extension of the rest of our home.

And perhaps that has been one of my favorite things about decorating this home.

I’m learning that I don’t have to finish every room at once.

I can live with a space for a while.

I can wait.

I can use what I already have.

And when I find one little thing that makes me smile—a striped skirt, a familiar print, a basket, a bit of texture—I can let that be enough for now.

Will there eventually be wallpaper in this little bathroom?

Perhaps.

I can already imagine how charming that might be.

But right now, I rather like its simplicity: blue and white, a few seashells, soft coastal touches, and a tiny room that finally seems to be finding its personality.

As August comes to a close, perhaps that’s a lovely reminder for more than decorating.

Not everything needs to be completely figured out.

Sometimes the loveliest changes happen slowly, one small decision at a time.

And sometimes, one little blue-and-white striped skirt can make all the difference. 🩵🤍
