Lately I’ve been noticing that life is often made up of small pleasures rather than grand events.

This past week brought a few of those moments.

My new blue bicycle arrived just in time to celebrate fifteen years of retirement. Somehow that milestone feels both surprising and familiar. Fifteen years have passed in the blink of an eye, yet those years have been filled with adventures, new friendships, different homes, and more blessings than I could have imagined.

To celebrate, Joe and I enjoyed dinner at a Mediterranean restaurant we’d been wanting to try. Later that evening we came home and did what we often do—we started talking about furniture.

At one point I was convinced the piano might need to be moved again. Joe was ready to help, and together we considered every possible arrangement. After all that discussion, we looked around the room and realized something unexpected.

Everything was just fine as it was.

The piano stayed put.

Meanwhile, a few other changes have quietly found their way into our days. The terrace is becoming a little more comfortable. The courtyard is slowly taking shape. And a colorful rooster recently followed me home and is currently searching for his permanent address.

For now, he’s perched in the kitchen, keeping me company while I decide where he belongs.

Like many of us after a move, he’s still figuring that out.

Perhaps that’s what this season is teaching me. Not every decision needs to be rushed. Not every corner needs to be finished. Sometimes it’s enough to enjoy the process of settling in.

A bicycle waiting for its next ride.

A rooster waiting for the perfect perch.

A summer evening shared with someone you love.

Small things, perhaps.

But often it’s the small things that become the moments we remember most.
