Welcoming Summer Slowly

Welcoming summer slowly from my favorite spot on the terrace.

There was a time when I thought summer arrived all at once.

The calendar would turn to June, the days would grow longer, and somehow I felt I should immediately step into a new season with energy and certainty.

These days, I welcome summer differently.

I welcome it slowly.

As May comes to a close, I find myself sitting on our terrace overlooking the pond, coffee in hand, watching the morning light move across the water. The ducks appear and disappear. A gentle breeze stirs the flowers. Nothing is rushing, and neither am I.

This spring has been filled with quiet reflections. I’ve spent time thinking about home, belonging, friendship, gratitude, creativity, and the unfolding nature of life itself. Many of my recent posts have explored those themes, and in many ways they continue to shape the season I’m entering now.

But as summer approaches, I feel a subtle shift.

Not a dramatic reinvention.

Not a grand declaration.

Just a gentle turning toward the life that is right in front of me.

A life that includes morning walks, lunches with friends, time with my husband, afternoons spent writing, arranging flowers, discovering small treasures for our home, and enjoying the beauty of ordinary days.

This summer I want to pay attention to those moments.

The books being written.

The conversations shared.

The corners of our townhome that continue to evolve and reflect who we are becoming.

The simple pleasures that often pass unnoticed when life moves too quickly.

Over the coming weeks, you’ll likely see more of that here on Marcia’s Cottage by the Sea.

There will still be reflections and quiet thoughts. But there may also be glimpses of home, favorite places, decorating projects, books, friendships, creativity, and the small adventures that make up a meaningful life.

After all, intentional living isn’t only about looking inward.

It’s also about noticing the beauty that surrounds us.

As June begins, I’m not rushing into summer.

I’m simply opening the door and inviting it in.

Slowly.

Gratefully.

One beautiful day at a time.

Gratitude: Today I am grateful for new seasons, familiar comforts, and the gentle reminder that a meaningful life is built in ordinary moments.

Thank you, Jose. I’m touched that those passages resonated with you. Sometimes the greatest gift is simply allowing ourselves to notice the beauty already around us. May summer unfold gently for both of us.
