Week Two in the “Tending the Home” Series
Throughout the month of March, I’m reflecting on what it means to truly tend the home. Beyond the rooms we decorate and the spaces we arrange, tending the home also includes the rhythms of daily life, the relationships we nurture, the creativity we cultivate, and the quiet tending of the heart.
When we think about tending the home, it is easy to think first about the physical space—the rooms we decorate, the flowers we place on a table, or the small seasonal touches that mark the passing of time.
But a home is more than its walls or furnishings.
A home is also shaped by the rhythms of daily life that unfold within it.
Over the years I have come to understand that tending the home is not only about arranging spaces—it is also about tending the ordinary days that fill those spaces.
These days may appear simple from the outside, yet they quietly hold the structure of a life.
In this season of life, I have grown to appreciate the gentle rhythm of these ordinary days.
Beginning the Day with Reflection
Most mornings begin quietly.
Before the day gathers its momentum, I take time for reading and reflection. These moments allow me to settle my thoughts and reconnect with what truly matters. Faith, gratitude, and reflection form a kind of foundation for the day ahead.
It is not about perfection or rigid routines.
It is simply about creating a small pocket of space where the spirit can breathe.
Caring for the Body and the Home
As the day unfolds, I move into the rhythm of everyday living—walking around the neighborhood or along the pond, tending small tasks around the home, and preparing meals.
Preparing food has become one of the ways I care for both my home and my body. There is something grounding about assembling a healthy plate—fresh greens, mushrooms, tomatoes, nuts, and a piece of salmon.
These small acts of nourishment are not elaborate, but they are meaningful. They are reminders that tending the home also includes tending ourselves.
Even the act of setting a plate or enjoying a meal near the window becomes part of the quiet rhythm of the day.
Pausing to Notice Beauty

One of the unexpected gifts of this season of life is the ability to pause.
Sometimes that pause happens while looking through a mirror toward the courtyard or the pond beyond. The flowers outside, the changing sky, and the gentle stillness of the neighborhood all become part of the home’s rhythm.
These small visual moments remind me that a home is not separate from the world around it. It is connected to the seasons, the weather, and the landscape just beyond the door.
Making Space for Creativity
Within these daily rhythms, I often find small pockets of time for writing. Creativity tends to emerge quietly in the spaces between ordinary tasks—after a walk, during a calm afternoon, or in the stillness of evening.
I will share more about tending the creative life later in this series, but I have come to see that creativity often grows from the gentle rhythm of everyday living.
The Quiet Beauty of Ordinary Days
There was a time in life when I believed meaningful moments had to be large or dramatic.
Now I see that much of life is lived in the quiet middle spaces—the meals prepared, the walks taken, the pages written, the sunlight falling through the window.
These ordinary days are not something to rush through.
They are the very fabric of a life.
And tending to them—gently and intentionally—is one of the ways we tend the home.
A small act of tending today might be preparing a nourishing meal, taking a quiet walk, or simply pausing long enough to notice the beauty already present in an ordinary day.
Gratitude:
Today I am grateful for the quiet rhythm of ordinary days and the simple beauty that unfolds within them.

I believe your starting the day with quiet reflection allows the ordinariness of days reveal the treasures of ordinary life.
Thank you
