New Year’s Day always arrives quietly for me.
Not with resolutions or pressure — but with a soft invitation to begin again.
This post is the first in a simple January mini-series I’m calling “Clearing Space.”
Each week this month, I’ll be reflecting on one small theme — clearing, noticing quiet joy, creating, and gently looking toward spring. My hope is that these softer rhythms make the start of the year feel kinder.
Over the next several days, I’ll be doing simple things around our home — slowly taking down the Christmas decorations, tucking away cherished ornaments, and giving each corner a little breathing room again.
I decorated very intentionally this season.
Everything I brought out felt meaningful and quietly joyful — and as I put each piece away, I’m remembering why I chose it. There’s something lovely about acknowledging the beauty something brought into your life before returning it to its box.
It feels less like “cleaning up” and more like closing a chapter with gratitude.

Clearing space also happens on the inside.
Along with the decorations, I’m organizing my journal and setting up my 2026 planner. There’s something calming about fresh pages, waiting to hold new memories, prayers, and ideas.
I’m not making big lists or rigid plans… just gentle intentions.
A few questions I’m sitting with:
- What do I want more of?
- What can I lovingly release?
- Where can I create quiet space — both in my home and in my heart?
I may share a bit of this process in a YouTube video (we’ll see!) — because I know many of us are doing the same kind of beginning-again work right now, each in our own way.

The gift of small steps
Clearing one shelf.
Folding a favorite tablecloth.
Putting an ornament back in its tissue paper.
None of it is dramatic — yet together, it creates a feeling of peaceful order.
January reminds me that life doesn’t need to be rushed to be meaningful.
Sometimes the most loving thing we can do is simply tidy, breathe, and let our home — and our spirits — reset.

A gentle invitation
If you’d like to join me this week, try choosing one tiny space to clear:
a drawer, a basket, a corner, or even a thought you no longer need to carry.
Notice how it feels when you make just that small shift.
Gratitude today: I’m thankful for fresh beginnings… and the quiet courage to take them slowly.
I’m beginning a gentle January series, and this week we start by simply clearing space.

I am grateful for your post and the invitation to ‘clear space’. I believe for me it is more internal and I will give it some soulful reflection.
Thank you
Happy New Year Jose!
Thank you Marcia. Great reflective questions. Did half the Christmas decorations this week. With medical issues I am a lot slower. Will do the other half with help. Being as gentle with myself as I can. Your reflections and ideas inspire me. Barbara
