There’s a gentle magic that arrives with December—the kind that doesn’t need to sparkle loudly to be felt. This year, as I opened my Christmas boxes and slowly began decorating our townhome, I found myself moving toward simplicity… pieces that feel comforting, meaningful, and perfectly suited to this chapter of life.

At the heart of it all is our 9-foot skinny pencil tree, beautifully flocked and pre-lit. Its tall, narrow shape fits the living room effortlessly, adding presence without crowding the space.
I started simply, placing twelve blue ornaments—three soft shades of blue that remind me of coastal mornings and winter skies. And then, just recently, I added something special:
my small collection of German Nutcracker ornaments. Only nine of them, each one collected over time. They added just the right amount of charm, a quiet nod to tradition without overwhelming the calm palette.
The tree feels serene, personal, and very “Marcia Christmas.”

For the entryway, I created a small vignette on the console table. Two skinny trees, each wrapped with tiny lights, frame the space beautifully. Between them sits a cluster of ornaments that I picked up last winter during our trip to London—little treasures from shops tucked along festive streets.
Every time I walk by, they bring back a memory… soft lights, cobblestone lanes, and the joy of wandering together.

Outdoors, I kept things traditionally simple and easy to maintain:
- In the courtyard, a pretty wreath hangs on the door.
- Small strands of white twinkly lights add glow to the evening.
- The deck has just a few lights—enough to feel warm when dusk settles.
- And at the front entry, a cheerful Nutcracker stands beside a colorful string of lights, ready to greet anyone who stops by.
Everything feels peaceful and manageable—exactly what my heart wanted this year.

As December unfolds, I’m looking forward to welcoming a few friends here and there… nothing elaborate, just warm cups of tea, gentle conversation, and the joy of being together.
This Christmas feels grounded, simplified, and deeply meaningful.
A soft, beautiful beginning to the season—
A Marcia Christmas.
