The Book Club: Chapters of Life

Do not go gentle into that good night, old age should burn and rave at close of day; rage, rage against the dying of the night” -Dylan Thomas

Hello sweet friend…🧤

(just a little warning…I’m in a chatty mood today)

what’s going on in your neck of the woods…

This is a fabulous season on the Oregon coast. The sun 🌞 rises at 5:00 am

and...

doesn’t set until after 9:00 pm.

(Of couse) I know better…however

It feels as if it is always going to be daylight.

With that being said these longer days afford plenty of time for doing all those favorite activities.

Playing in the garden…walking on the beach…reading…cooking with Joe…meeting up with friends…and going to the movies. (I love going to the movies!) A recent movie I enjoyed was BookClub. any chance you too have seen it?  Watching it made me think of the book clubs I’ve participated in over the years. When I lived in California I belonged to several. The opportunity to meet new friends and mingle with books that normally wouldn’t have crossed my path was exciting. Now…getting back to the movie BookClub. I have to tell you that I have actually watched it three times over the last month.🍿🍿🍿 (that’s a lot of popcorn!) The first time I invited my dear friend (around the age of my mother if she were still living) whose current chapter in life includes visiting her husband in a care facility. The second time was a playdate with girlfriends, 👩‍❤️‍👩 and the third bag of popcorn was shared with Joe.💕 who btw also enjoyed the movie😉 Each experience opened me up to the many chapters in our own life. My first friend having been married for over 65 years  carries many wedded memories….The girlfriends in my age bracket (of course I’m the youngest😉) have their own stories being written…and my husband recently began another new chapter with his retirement. There are many chapters in life and if we are fortunate one of those chapters will include growing older. Personally I’m hoping to make that chapter a fabulous read. Growing old is something we all think about. Well, at least I do. Perhaps for some of us those thoughts are more frequently. I guess the movie BookClub made me reconnect with my long ago youthful script on how I thought I’d be when I was older. With careful editing and gracefully embracing each day with love …lots of gratitude, each chapter will be an exciting adventure…one to look forward to. How about you?

Yes, indeed, thinking about the years as they go by we do realize how life brings many changes. We can make plans but sometimes unexpected experiences come our way. Humor and good friendships help us accept what we know we really can’t change. Can’t wait to see that movie!!!

      Hi Jenny,
Humor & good friendships are winning ingredients to get through the many chapters in life. Happiness & sadness… Good times & not so good shared. XO

    Hello sweet friend…
Happy to be out and about again…. Life indeed brings changes day by day…. I have come to expect that plans sometimes don’t come out the way you wanted them to but another door opens and something unexpected and special can come your way… How funny that you talk about growing older in this post… that has been on my mind these last weeks… I pray we all get to enjoy that journey with sound minds and body… My dear friend Addi and I have had several conversations about this and go through different scenarios with one another… We think of the silliest ones and then we start giggling with the crazy ideas we come up with… Change happens everyday but some of them are so subtle we miss them…. I think that God has really thought every thing out including making my eyes nearsighted…. this way I cannot see all the not so subtle changes that are occurring…. Meeting new people along the path of life is lovely and saying good bye to old ones is heartbreaking but life as we all know it is not static…. Your salad recipe is wonderful……. thanks for sharing another bit of your lovely life in your darling cottage along the beautiful Oregon coast…. XOXO Jane

      Hello Jane,
I’m so happy to hear you are up and around again. I’ve missed you. Oh and lucky you being nearsighted! I tend to notice all the little changes before they seem to even happen. I have to laugh about your scenarios with your friend Addi because I’ve done the same thing. Well… I’m off for my morning walk here on my beautiful coast. The sky is blue there’s a wonderful soft breeze this morning and a lovely time for me to appreciate this moment. XO
